Dan Simons
Candidate for Harris County District Attorney
Kingwood Area Republican Woman would like to welcome Dan Simons, candidate for Harris County District Attorney, as our speaker for our general meeting on April 18, 2024. Going forward, KARW will use FIVE FUN QUESTIONS to introduce our speakers or special guests giving our membership a sneak peak into their every day lives in hope to spark an interest in actively supporting or campaigning for these candidates or office holders. With our crime rising in Harris County, Dan Simons needs all the support we can give him in this challenging election.
“We need a strong leader that can restore public confidence in our District Attorney’s Office.”
You have had such an unconventional upbringing, who had the most impact in your life?
The person that impacted my life the most was Carolyn McGuire.
You went from the military - to the art world- to law, what were the most important lessons you learned in each area?
In the military, I learned discipline and responsibility. In the Art world, I learned you can accomplish anything with repetition/practice.
If you could change the DA’s office in a blink of an ey, what are the top 3 things you would do first?
First, I would bring back experienced prosecutors. Second, I would immediately change the toxic environment. Third, we need to institute intense training on how to be an effective and efficient prosecutor. —the immediate list is longer than three.
What was the best advice given to you and what advise would you give to teenagers today to implement in their lives?
Actually, I was given negative advice. I was told “you can’t” nearly my entire life, especially prior to every major achievement. My advice to teenagers would be, don’t let other people tell you what you can’t do. Surround yourself with encouraging people. You can overcome any adverse situation if you set your mind to it.
Why did you decide to run for District Attorney of Harris County?
The reasons I am running for District Attorney is a long list. We need a strong leader that can restore public confidence in our District Attorney’s Office. The 8 year soft on crime approach has failed and if we don’t win in November, I fear we will lose our county and possibly our State to people that will place our lives in an even more dangerous situation.
